Specifically, the Commercial function of the Legal Department provides strategic legal advice, negotiates, drafts and reviews contracts, and advises on the development of policies in support of various departments across the organization, including Procurement, Sustainability, Strategic Sales, Store Development, Finance, Trade & Customs, Logistics, and Sourcing. 


a day in the life 

You will be responsible to assist in a broad variety of legal matters including:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts to ensure compliance with Mexican laws and company policies.
  • Identify legal risks and collaborate with other Legal Department experts to deliver actionable solutions in region on a variety of matters including privacy, tax, labour, and intellectual property.
  • Applying enterprise-wide policies and providing legal education to business partners.
  • Providing fit-for-purpose legal advice to business partners, enabling the organization to act in compliance in day-to-day operations.
  • Researching unique legal issues and industry trends impacting the organization, identifying applicable laws, and keeping abreast of legislative changes and requirements.


qualifications:

  • Law degree from a recognized Mexican university (Juris Doctor or equivalent), licensed to practice law in Mexico. Additional certifications, such as an LLM, are a plus.
  • 3 to 8 years of legal experience as a practicing lawyer (prior in-house experience preferred and/or experience in retail, fashion, or consumer goods sectors).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent organizational skills. Good judgment with an understanding of when to ask for guidance or input. 
  • Excellent analytical, written, verbal, research, and communication skills. Ability to evaluate risk and manage competing priorities.

In-person collaboration is important, and much of the role can be performed remotely. Work is performed onsite at least 3 days per week.
