Managing Commercial and Intellectual Property, clearance programs, and litigation support for the footwear team, the successful candidate will report to the VP of Legal.


  • Develop and implement patent clearance programs, education, patent landscape mapping, risk tracking, and policies and procedures to support the creation and sale of footwear.
  • Deliver effective and practical legal advice to Product Development, Design, Operations, and brand with a focus on intellectual property, patent law, litigation, and clearances.
  • Review external patent searches and interface with internal legal and business teams to support the identification of innovations and the drafting and prosecution of patents.
  • Respond to contract and commercial advice requests.
  • Advise the footwear team at all levels on risk, analysis, landscapes, and processes to protect intellectual property and avoid external IP risks.
  • Design clearance and other processes and policies for the footwear team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in legal and key business teams.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to advance lululemon's objectives, working cross-functionally with procurement and other teams in the negotiation.
  • Work with the internal patent team to understand and analyze patents.


  • Member of the Bar in one US or Canadian jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years' experience working at law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Solid patent experience is required.
  • Experience in footwear, fabrics, apparel, or materials is an asset.
  • Experience drafting and advising on commercial agreements, and experience designing and administering patent clearance, innovation management and patent prosecution is an asset. 
  • Experience in IP litigation is an asset.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Onsite in the Portland Office

Compensation and Benefits Package 

For Oregon Applicants: lululemon’s compensation offerings are rooted in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position in Oregon is from $140,800 – $184,800 USD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our competitive Total Rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus offering and equity offerings, subject to program eligibility requirements.
