Product Development Director, Footwear

ABOUT THIS TEAM
Within the umbrella of the newly created Portland organization, as the Director of Footwear Development, you are responsible for successful global development of products from conception to commercialization for all footwear business categories. This role oversees the product development team, contributing to the departmental KPI’s and collaborates in setting the strategic roadmap for the product development team.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
• As the Development Director, you will be part of the upfront work for the season, contributing to the build with cross-functional Management of the people and the process creating structure for the footwear development team
• You manage the workflow and workload of the team seasonally, allocating resources that support the line architecture
• Monitors development and performance of direct reports through regular meetings to discuss performance and development objectives
• Leads on time delivery and development according to GTM critical dates throughout the product creation path
• Works with Global Operations team to partner on manufacturing improvements that lead to best in class footwear with our Be Planet front of mind
• Working with our factory partners to oversee product tear downs and analysis. Oversees the process to create and maintain accuracy of technical tear down and costing notes
• Work with the Merchandising partners to establish product development costs and margin targets and budget adherence for all footwear categories through each stage of the development process
• Monitors development timelines to ensure milestones, costing and quality standards are met
• Partner with innovation team, design and materials on new technologies that lead to new engagements of new development opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in development, project management, business, merchandise management, or related field;
• You have 10+ years of experience working in operations and product creation for athletic performance brands in the sporting goods industry;
• You have a portfolio of bringing sports product to market;
• You have experience traveling to overseas manufacturing vendors/factories to develop and commercialize product;
• You have strong project management experience with demonstrated ability to manage conflicts;
• You have experience working in a retail operations environment to drive continuous improvement;
• You have the ability to act objectively and uncover facts;
• You understand the complexities of the cross-functional requirements to deliver product;
• You are a clear, concise and confident communicator that lives to support the business; and
• You enjoy a fast pace environment and can create order from chaos.
