about this role

The Localization & Communications Lead for Mexico will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective communication of key messages across the store fleet while also overseeing the localization of marketing materials to meet the needs of the Mexican market. This role combines the strategic leadership of retail communications with the detailed oversight of localization processes, ensuring that all communications and marketing content are culturally relevant, clear, and aligned with business objectives.

 

As the point of contact between retail teams and all SSC departments, you will lead the development and execution of communication strategies for Mexico’s store fleet, ensuring that our retail teams are equipped with the right information at the right time. You will also partner with project teams and manage the localization of various marketing materials, ensuring that content is accurately translated, transcreated, and adapted for local audiences while maintaining brand consistency.

 

a day in the life: what you'll do

  • Develop high-quality translated content for Mexico retail teams, including daily Zipline communications, change management updates, editorial stories, FAQs, tasks, executive messages, and ad-hoc communications. Ensure all content resonates with the local culture, language, and legal requirements.
  • Create and execute communications project plans, timelines, and defined deliverables that shape our culture, drive engagement, and deliver results.
  • Lead the translation intake process and manage the localization of content, adapting messaging for cultural, political, and linguistic nuances in Mexico. Ensure consistency in terminology and maintain high-quality bilingual communications in Spanish.
  • Create and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets for translation and localization initiatives. Oversee the end-to-end localization workflow using translation management tools, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content. Advise on timelines and resources for translation projects.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including North American stakeholders, marketing, and creative departments, to align localization efforts with global campaign objectives. Provide guidance on Mexican cultural differences and consult on localization best practices. Facilitate regular communication and collaboration with internal teams and third-party vendors.
  • Oversee relationships with translation vendors and freelance translators, ensuring quality control through routine checks and answering linguistic/stylistic questions. Manage the localization process with external partners to maintain project quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain and manage Mexican Spanish linguistic assets such as Translation Memories and Glossaries
  • Drive linguistic meetings to align on proper terminology that stay true to the lululemon tone of voice
  • Identify and manage risks related to localization projects, optimizing workflows through prioritization and collaboration. Ensure quality standards are met through regular quality checks and feedback loops with stakeholders and end users.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, language management tools, and best practices. Share expertise and collaborate with colleagues to improve content delivery, ensuring effective and intentional communication across the business.
  • Manage localization project budgets, tracking costs and ensuring projects stay within budget while maintaining high-quality outputs.
  • Collect and coordinate language feedback from both guests and employees, reporting on engagement and continuously improving the localization process.

 

qualifications 

  • Bachelor's, or Master’s degree, in Localization, Language Studies, or 5+ years of localization project management experience, working on projects that involve language launches, software, large-scale program rollouts, internal/corporate/employee communications; retail leadership experience an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of localization tools, including TMs, TXML and subtitling production technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading and delivering complex localization projects for multiple teams
  • Hands-on translation/transcreation experience both in web content and digital marketing.
  • Extensive knowledge of language, cultural differences and nuances.
  • Working knowledge of localized SEO principles and trends.
  • Passion for languages and translation.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills & strong attention to detail.

This role is classified as Hybrid under our SSC Workplace Policy:  


Hybrid: In-person collaboration is important, andmuch of the role can be performed remotely. Work is performed onsite 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) each week.
