Who You Are

You are responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive communications and public relations strategy to support the near and long-term goals of the China Mainland division of lululemon. You will raise awareness for lululemon across China Mainland, which will introduce the brand to new guests, position the company as a thought leader, and gain attention for the company’s products, partnerships, and initiatives.  You will develop proactive and reactive communications strategies to successfully navigate challenging issues and challenges within the business. 

A day in the life:

       Lead communications and public relations for the China Mainland organization, inspiring the employees of the fast-growing division of the company, serving as the communications advisor and coach to the leadership team of the division

       Develop and guide the external media strategy and execution within China Mainland, including ensuring effective management of our agency partners, to introduce lululemon to new guests, position the company as a thought leader, and gain attention for the company’s leadership positions in the areas of product innovation, wellbeing, and culture.

       Lead communications and PR strategies and execution for lululemon within the China Mainland, with a particular focus on identifying earned media opportunities to introduce lululemon to more guests in China Mainland.

       Lead internal communications across the region to ensure we’re speaking with “one voice” with all SSC and store employees and successfully enable the business to meet its goals while reinforcing the company’s culture.

  • Develop and implement corporate communications strategies that align the company’s business and culture with the communities in which we operate to raise the profile of lululemon and build confidence in the company’s growth strategies in China Mainland, and raise awareness for the company’s social impact and sustainability initiatives
  • Advise and support the leader of our China Mainland business, as well as senior leaders of the region, through consistent and compelling executive communications strategies that create a connection between the executive and the audiences.
  • Serve as communications advisor to China Mainland cross-functional leaders and global leaders at all levels of the company, understanding the dynamics of internal and external communications.
  • Lead the company’s approach and response in the region during regional crisis situations, collaborating closely with peers across communications, legal, government relations, brand and people and culture.
  • Serve as a member of the Global Communications team, working closely with peers across Global Consumer PR< Global Corporate Communications, Global Internal Communications and regional communications.
  • Work closely as part of the Brand and Marketing organization within the company to collaborate closely on initiatives to amplify the brand.
  • Develop and regularly report on key indicators to objectively show the impact of strategy. 
  • Inspire and manage a team over time within the region to support PR, corporate communications, and internal communications, priorities.

Key Qualifications

      Proven leader, with 15 to 20 years of experience, in communications roles of increasing responsibility within external and internal communications

      Ability to articulate and co-create strategies with a wide range of people, including C-suite executives and employees at all levels of experience

·       Demonstrated success guiding communications strategies for major brands in China Mainland and managing a wide number of external agencies, consultants, and contractors; proven success managing reactive crisis situations

·       Experience successfully working closely with variety of cross-functional partners, including legal, government affairs, brand, marketing, and HR

·       Success leading and developing a team, creating opportunities for growth

·       An outstanding writer and storyteller who has a track record delivering for executives on multiple platforms and forums, ranging from speaking opportunities to internal messages to employees

·       Proven ability to develop forward-looking communications and business strategies in competitive and dynamic situations.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and strong presentation skills.

·       Able to develop relationships quickly and easily with people across cultures and geographies.

      Naturally inspires others and demonstrates an appetite for learning and personal development

      Bachelor’s degree in communications or related discipline. Fluent in English and Mandarin. 

The Details

      Based in Shanghai

·       Reports to the Senior Vice President, Global Communications & PR, and will work particularly closely with SVP, China Mainland and VP, Brand Marketing, China Mainland

      Lead team of 4 people dedicated to communications for China Mainland, with priority to further develop and build out function to support the company’s growth.
