A day in the life
Based in the Melbourne Store Support Centre, and reporting to Senior Legal Counsel, Employment APAC, you will be responsible for a broad range of legal employment law matters, including:
- Partner with People & Culture (Human Resources) and cross‑functional teams across APAC to design practical, culturally aligned policies and processes that strike the right balance between legal risk and operational reality.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of employment‑related programs and frameworks across APAC, partnering with global and regional stakeholders to promote consistent, practical, and scalable compliance outcomes.
- Provide accurate, timely and succinct legal advice to internal stakeholders.
- Draft, refine, and maintain core employment documentation, including offer letters, employment contracts, separation agreements, and employee handbooks.
- Work closely with regional People & Culture partners on performance-related matters, employee relations cases, and internal investigations, including preparing reports and recommending appropriate actions.
- Contribute to training programs for managers and employees, helping build strong people-leadership capability and prevent disputes before they arise.
- Help advance important initiatives by offering timely, practical legal guidance on fast‑paced work, including supporting projects within APAC.
- Stay ahead of legal and regulatory developments across the region and ensure internal employment compliance frameworks remain aligned with evolving international, national, and local requirements.
- Support the handling of employment disputes with global litigation team on claims, audits, and pre‑litigation matters, including instructing external counsels as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in laws.
- Qualified lawyer in any common law jurisdictions with strong English proficiency.
- 5+ years of legal experience, preferably with some in-house experience in a MNC environment.
- Strong APAC-wide experience with demonstrable experience of providing and co-ordinating multi-jurisdictional employment advice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information succinctly to non‑legal partners.
- Independent, proactive, and service-oriented attitude.
- Skilled at navigating complex issues with practical, creative problem‑solving.
- Shows strong judgement and integrity when making decisions.
- Ability to manage legal risks and resolve disputes using both legal and non-legal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated integrity and commitment to ethical standards while handling sensitive and confidential issues.
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships across various organizational levels.
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
