As the Advanced Innovation – Elite Athlete Performance Pattern Engineer, you have the ability to blend an artistic eye for design with a technical engineering mindset. requires strong visualization skills to translate between 2D and 3D, as well as the ability to solve problems in a creative and innovative ways. You will be responsible for helping to shape groundbreaking performance apparel by turning sketches into patterns and subsequently into real apparel prototypes and ensuring our top athletes are enabled during the world’s most high-profile moments in sport. You will support in the delivery of transformative product that will exceed our athletes’ expectations using your technical expertise in pattern engineering and advanced apparel construction to deliver incomparable performance products following the design intent. 

Bringing visionary product ideas to life, you’ll seamlessly integrate new pattern engineering methods and construction techniques working closely with Design and Concept Creation to shape and develop apparel that meets the exact specifications of elite lululemon athletes. Your ability to manage multiple streams of work, leading with confidence in an ambiguous environment, and continuously push the boundaries of fit and construction will be essential. At the core of your role, you’ll drive and manage the pattern engineering of products through a unique timeline that shape products that not only meet but exceed the expectations of the brand and our athletes. 

What You’ll Do:

Pattern Engineering Excellence: Expertise in technical pattern engineering and best practices that lead towards apparel prototypes that demonstrate the fit, performance, function, and innovation intent.     

Pattern Engineering Process: Lead the pattern development process through both digital and hands-on make to inform decision making throughout the innovation creation process in parallel advising and drafting required pattern updates and corrections from physical to final product delivery, ensuring excellence in performance, fit, function, and aesthetic intent is maintained without compromise. 

Collaborative Problem-Solving: As our pattern engineer, you will identify and provide innovative construction and fit solutions for athletes across different activities. Working cross-functionally with key Elite Athlete Performance teams consisting of Design, Research, Athlete Testing, Raw Materials, Sports Marketing to ideate, refine, and evolve product concepts, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Drive New Methods-of-Construction: Working in lockstep with our Elite Athlete Performance designers and concept creators you will engineer and draft patterns by leveraging digital tools delivering advanced constructions that lead to ownable propositions for the brand.  

Talent Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing: Share your expertise with teammates, helping them grow and develop their knowledge and skills. Foster a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment that elevates the entire team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside cross-functional teams within Product Innovation; Design, Concept Creation, including Pattern Engineering, Research, and Labs, to ensure seamless integration of new ideas into the product pipeline.

What You Bring:

  • A deep passion for developing innovative, performance and functionally led apparel that redefines the on-body experience of elite athlete apparel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in pattern engineering, fit, and construction with a clear understanding of the athletics market and its culture.
  • Expertise in performance product construction, trims, materials, and apparel manufacturing with a keen eye for the finest details.
  • A collaborative mindset, eager to work across teams to bring your ideas to life.
  • Experience in leading pattern engineering process from concept to final product, including pressure testing your patterns through fittings and wear-testing.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear, inspiring way.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing to help elevate the team’s collective talent.

Requisite Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Pattern Engineer and/or advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the performance apparel industry.
  • High profile communication and influencing skills, including the ability to interact and update leaders on status to ensure alignment.
  • Expert knowledge of knowledge with Gerber Pattern Making and/or 3D software (CLO, Browzwear), and materials is highly preferred. Including product creation software and tools.
  • Proficient understanding of athlete product testing best practices, product planning and logistics, process planning, and with strong communication skills. Adjust to changing circumstances and adapt to ensure product excellence
  • In-depth understanding of the GTM calendar dates and gates, with the ability to adjust project plans based on compressed timelines/ Athlete and Business needs
  • The ability to travel 30% of the time

Compensation and Benefits Package 
lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $96,800 – 127,100 CAD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program subject to program eligibility requirements.
