who we are:
lululemon is an innovative performance apparel company for yoga, running, training, and other athletic pursuits. Setting the bar in technical fabrics and functional design, we create transformational products and experiences that support people in moving, growing, connecting, and being well. We owe our success to our innovative product, emphasis on stores, commitment to our people, and the incredible connections we make in every community we're in. As a company, we focus on creating positive change to build a healthier, thriving future. In particular, that includes creating an equitable, inclusive and growth-focused environment for our people.
a day in the life:
You begin your day ensuring everything is ready with all the new equipment in working order and prepare for a full day of supporting all research and facilities activities with the research, prototyping and ambassador team. You are hands on in building the future of the space and its capabilities, knowing that to lead product innovation, we must lead research innovation. You collaborate directly with the research team, as you support bringing new research protocols to life and work to build and buy the equipment to make those a reality. Your strong technical skills allow you to be uninhibited in seeing (and realising) the future of thermal, movement, raw material and sensory perception research and testing. The team can rely on you to support troubleshooting anything – solving problems with product, test design, and repair of research/prototyping equipment. You take pride in the lab you run and passionately support in building the capacity to test ‘away from home’ and remotely to ensure our global voices can be heard. You ensure that everything we do in our facility celebrates and creates mutual benefit for our guests, ambassadors and elite athletes.
core responsibilities:
• Set-up, calibration and proactive maintenance of human performance testing and RM
characterization equipment (including biomechanics, physiology, raw materials, etc)
• Exploring and budgeting new testing technologies and recommending ways in which we build our facility to ensure it is a high-performance space that inspires the creativity and progress in innovation.
• Piloting new kit and establishing SOPs to allow teams to hit the ground running, ensuring data integrity from the outset, e.g. Theia markerless MOCAP, VICON, IMU’s, 3d body scanner.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software.
• Design and development of new/hacked testing rigs to support RM characterization and on-body testing. e.g. hot plate testing for constructed bra cups, in lab test for nipple
concealment, airflow testing, etc.
• Supporting the ability to test ‘away from home’ and help to navigate associated
complexities (e.g. border clearance &/or creation of external network of collaborators who we can borrow equipment from if necessary)
• Implementation and management of data management systems ensuring collected data abides by consistently evolving best practices from legal and data architecture
perspectives.
• Tracking and reporting on lab usage and performance.
qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in engineering, sports technology, sports science or other related technical area. Masters/PhD preferred in applied field to human performance,
apparel/footwear/raw material performance or adjacent discipline.
• 5+ years experience in an applied R&D capacity. Demonstrating effectiveness in applying research methods to drive product insights and feedback.
• Strong project management skills (with experience in tools like smartsheet, Trello)
• Strong troubleshooting skills across research, equipment, prototyping.
• Expertise in technical research and prototyping equipment (including Raw Materials,
biomechanics, thermo-physiology, sensory perception)
• Expertise in leveraging sensor technologies to enable in-lab and in-the-wild testing
capabilities.
• Proven ability to organise, handle and analyse data from different sources.
• Experience/appetite to embrace AI/ML technologies to elevate the efficiency and/or efficacy of our processes.
• Proven record planning budget and managing budget.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, track and report on facility/space.
