core responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Legal Operations, the Senior Legal Budget Analyst supports the Legal team’s financial operations with a focus on budgeting, billing, and process improvement. This role partners closely with Legal leadership, Finance, Accounting, and external vendors to ensure transparent, accurate, and efficient financial management.

 

The Senior Legal Budget Analyst maintains the Legal department budget across four regions and four GLs, overseeing outside counsel billing, spend tracking, accruals, and forecasting. They monitor spending trends, analyze variances, and provide clear insights to support decision‑making, while ensuring timely and compliant invoice processing in partnership with a dedicated billing administrator.

 

In addition to day‑to‑day operations, this role drives cost management initiatives, maintains outside counsel policies and guidelines, and leads improvements to billing tools, tracking systems, and global processes. The Senior Legal Budget Analyst also delivers training and resources to strengthen financial literacy across the Legal team. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.

 

  • Key partner in Legal’s annual budget process, including building the budget from the ground up, partnering with Finance on the Monthly Business Review cycle 
  • Own outside counsel billing operations and governance, including invoice review and approval, enforcement of billing guidelines, identification and resolution of discrepancies or rate deviations, dispute management, and maintenance of billing procedures and internal controls.
  • Manage ongoing budgetary requests, exceptions, and changes throughout the fiscal year, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and alignment with department priorities
  • Prepare and deliver financial reporting and insights, including budget trend analysis, variance identification, and forecasting support in partnership with Legal Leaders and Finance. 
  • Partner with attorneys and matter owners to track matter budgets, accruals, and forecasts; proactively surface risks to budget
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for the CLO and senior leadership as needed Training & Policy Development 
  • Design and deliver training and ongoing guidance on budget management, outside counsel best practices, and billing tools (including Coupa), equipping Legal leaders and team members to manage spend effectively
  • Lead Legal Operations initiatives to improve billing, budgeting, vendor management, and technology


qualifications

  • 5+ years of billing experience, with at least 3 years in a legal department or law firm environment
  • Proven experience owning or contributing to an annual budget process and AOP planning cycle 
  • Experience with eBilling platforms (e.g. Coupa, TeamConnect, BrightFlag, Legal Tracker, or similar) 
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) 
  • Solid understanding of legal billing practices, matter management, and outside counsel guidelines 
  • Experience developing and delivering training to legal or cross-functional teams 
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities 
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally with attorneys, Finance, and vendors
  • Experience in a global legal department or law firm is a plus.

compensation and benefits package 

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $81,500–$107,000annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
