About this team

The Raw Materials Innovation team shapes, surprises and engineers delight into the future guest experience through advanced innovation principles and material science. We go beyond the classic research and development methodologies into the realm of limitless possibility for both body and mind. We innovate new materials that didn't exist, we innovate new manufacturing techniques that didn't exist, we create new experiences for our guests that they didn't know they wanted it. We engineer new sensations and functionality in our materials. We lead the industry in creating sustainable materials. We need you to work on short-, mid-and longterm projects by defining 'state of the art,' leading research, building insight, generating unique points of view, creating prototypes and proving principles.

We are looking for a hands-on innovator, technical problem-solver, and lab builder to help establish lululemon’s next-generation Raw Materials Innovation Lab in Taiwan. This is not a traditional fabric testing lab role. This is an advanced materials prototyping and analysis role focused on creating, testing, quantifying, and scaling net-new material concepts. In this role, you will pioneer a new capability for lululemon by successfully building and operationalizing a world-class RMI Lab — a future-facing platform for the next generation of materials innovation. This lab will help lululemon move faster, learn deeper, create stronger partnerships, and lead the industry in advanced textile and material innovation.

You will work across fiber, yarn, fabric construction, finishing, textile process innovation, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

You will also collaborate directly with global textile machinery manufacturers, technology companies, research institutions, vendors, testing labs, and cross-functional lululemon teams to bring breakthrough ideas from concept to prototype to scalable development.

A day in the life:

• Build and evolve the RMI Lab into a world-class innovation center — a space that is both highly functional and inspiring, where breakthrough ideas can come to life.
• Establish day-to-day lab operations across early-stage prototyping, trial production, advanced testing, technical documentation, safety, and scale-up readiness.
• Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses, develop novel materials, optimize textile processes, and quantify innovation benefits using scientific methods and data.
• Work hands-on with lab-scale and pilot-scale machinery, including spinning, texturizing, knitting, weaving, finishing, and testing equipment.
• Partner with global textile machinery manufacturers and technology companies to modify, advance, or “hack” sampling machines and process technologies to unlock new material structures, sensations, performance benefits, and manufacturing possibilities.
• Develop SOPs for experimentation, trial production, equipment operation, testing, calibration, documentation, and safety.
• Analyze trial results, identify failure modes, extract insights, and translate findings into actionable improvements for future iterations or commercialization.
• Collaborate with Raw Materials Innovation, Product Innovation, Raw Materials Development, Sourcing, Quality, vendors, and external partners to move concepts from idea to implementation.
• Maintain a clear database of innovation trials, test results, prototypes, technical learnings, and material development libraries.
• Recruit, train, and mentor technicians, interns, and lab specialists while building a network of subject matter experts who can support specialized machinery and advanced textile development.
• Capture and document potential intellectual property created through the innovation process, partnering with internal teams to protect lululemon’s future advantage.
• Present prototypes, testing insights, project updates, and technical recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Stay current on the latest developments in textile science, advanced manufacturing, testing methods, automation, sustainability, machinery innovation, and IP.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree required; PhD preferred in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Fiber Science, Textile Manufacturing, Textile Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5–10+ years of experience in textile R&D, materials innovation, lab operations, pilot-scale development, advanced manufacturing, or a similar technical leadership role.
• Strong foundation in fiber, yarn, fabric construction, textile processing, dyes, finishes, and advanced textile materials.
• Hands-on experience with lab-scale or pilot-scale textile equipment, including spinning, texturizing, knitting, weaving, finishing, testing, or related manufacturing processes.
• Experience developing prototypes, running trials, analyzing results, troubleshooting process issues, and translating learnings into improved materials or scalable solutions.
• Ability to connect material structure, machine settings, process conditions, and testing data to performance outcomes such as moisture management, stretch and recovery, breathability, thermal comfort, durability, abrasion resistance, handfeel, drape, and appearance retention.
• Experience collaborating with machinery manufacturers, technology companies, vendors, testing labs, research institutions, or manufacturing partners.
• Strong project management, troubleshooting, technical documentation, data analysis, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of material testing standards, safety protocols, IP protection, compliance practices, and lab operational requirements.
• Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop cross-functional teams, technicians, interns, and external partners.
• Authorization to work in Taiwan is required for this role.
