Description & Requirements

who we are

lululemon is an innovative performance apparel company for yoga, running, training, and other athletic pursuits. Setting the bar in technical fabrics and functional design, we create transformational products and experiences that support people in moving, growing, connecting, and being well. We owe our success to our innovative product, emphasis on stores, commitment to our people, and the incredible connections we make in every community we're in. As a company, we focus on creating positive change to build a healthier, thriving future. In particular, that includes creating an equitable, inclusive and growth-focused environment for our people.

about this team

The Cloud Foundations team is a core pillar of lululemon’s technology strategy. We provide strong, scalable foundations across Azure and AWS, using cloud-native services to offer secure, self-service platforms with clear guardrails for our internal engineering teams.

We’re accelerating our adoption of artificial intelligence, software agents, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) to unlock velocity, resilience, and cost efficiency. As a Cloud Foundations Engineer, you will build and operate platform capabilities that make it easy and safe for product teams to ship AI-enabled applications—think: standardized landing zones, Terraform modules, policy-as-code, CI/CD, and the shared components that power LLM/agent workloads (tooling, observability, data access, and governance).

You’ll be hands-on, collaborate across platform, security, and product teams, and contribute to a consistent delivery cadence and short cycle times in line with our team’s goals.

core responsibilities

As an Engineer II, you will bring a high level of technical knowledge, but also an ability to spread knowledge to your co-workers. You will help form the core of our engineering practice at lululemon by contributing to all areas of development and operations (pre-production to production). You will be an example of what good engineering looks like and help others around you refine their skills. You will be part of a day-to-day production release team and may perform on-call support functions as needed. Having a DevOps mindset is the key to success in this role, as Engineers are commonly part of full DevOps teams that “own” all parts of software development, release pipelines, production monitoring, security and support.

Platform Delivery & Operations

    • Build, enhance, and operate AWS/Azure landing zones, reference architectures, and reusable Terraform modules that enable secure, self-service provisioning.
    • Implement policy-as-code guardrails (e.g., OPA/Conftest/Azure Policies/Service Control Policies) to protect the organization while preserving developer velocity.
    • Contribute to GitLab-based CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, and release automation for infra and platform products.
    • Participate in the on-call rotation, incident response, and post-incident reviews for cloud platform services supporting high-volume retail experiences.

AI/Agents and MCP Enablement

    • Stand up and operate shared agent infrastructure: tool registries, secure tool execution, function calling, prompt/config management, and MCP-compatible tool servers.
    • Integrate observability for LLM/agent runs (traces/metrics/evals), cost controls, rate-limit handling, safe-defaults, and automated rollback/kill-switches.
    • Partner with data, security, and app teams to provide standardized patterns for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), secret/PII protection, and least-privileged access to data sources.
    • Document golden paths and developer guides that simplify adopting AI/agent capabilities.

Security, Reliability and Cost

    • Embed practical security into designs (network segmentation, KMS, identity, secret management, private endpoints) and support compliance controls.
    • Drive SRE practices for platform services (SLOs, error budgets, autoscaling, chaos/game days).
    • Apply FinOps practices (tagging, budgets, anomaly detection, right-sizing) to optimize cost-to-serve.

Enablement and Collaboration

    • Translate application-team needs into backlog items and platform features; evangelize adoption with clear docs, examples, and workshops.
    • Contribute to community of practice sessions; share learnings on performance, security and usability in complex systems.

qualifications:

  • 3–5 years in cloud/platform engineering or SRE, working with distributed systems in AWS and/or Azure.
  • Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code; comfortable designing reusable modules and pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of GitLab CI/CD (or similar), containerization, and orchestration.
  • Coding proficiency in at least one of Python or Go; able to integrate with REST/JSON APIs.
  • Familiarity with serverless patterns and event-driven architectures.
  • Exposure to AI/LLM/agent development concepts (prompting, tool use/function calling, RAG), or a demonstrable willingness to ramp quickly.
  • Nice to have experience: MCP tools/server implementation, Policy-As-Code and private networking, Observability stacks and FinOps practices in multi-cloud

must haves

  • Acknowledge the presence of choice in every moment and take personal responsibility for your life.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and continuously innovate to achieve great results.
  • Communicate with honesty and kindness and create the space for others to do the same.
  • Lead with courage, knowing the possibility of greatness is bigger than the fear of failure.
  • Foster connection by putting people first and building trusting relationships.
  • Integrate fun and joy as a way of being and working, aka doesn’t take yourself too seriously.
