The Product Innovation team infuses the lululemon apparel business with new ideas, new technologies, new understanding, and new products. With a diverse and passionate team of innovators, our leading human and material research infrastructure, and the pioneering Science of Feel innovation philosophy, the Product Innovation team ensures that lululemon remains at the forefront of the sport, exercise, and lifestyle apparel industry. As a Research Engineer within our Evergreen team, you will be directly accountable for the engineering development and technical delivery of innovative platforms across key initiatives related to the future of active apparel. You will bridge early-stage research, human sciences, and product creation; developing, integrating and testing new models, systems and materials in support of generating transformative apparel experiences. 

 

core responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development in Evergreen Research projects, collaborating closely with researchers, designers and developers to support of functional apparel by integrating engineering principles.
  • Build and iterate functional models, leverage simulation and physical testing to optimize performance. 
  • Design and implement hypothesis-driven experimental methods and data analysis plans to evaluate the desirability, usability and functionality of research concepts. 
  • Apply modelling tools (e.g. mechanical, thermal, material) and build custom physical test rigs to evaluate early concepts and inform design decisions. 
  • Translate research findings into evidence-based actionable insights for design, development, and executive stakeholders. 
  • Actively share engineering capabilities, modelling explorations, and iterative learnings across the Product Innovation team to strengthen a culture of experimentation, rapid feedback, and continuous innovation.

 

qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g. materials, mechanical, electrical, systems, or mechatronics) with 2+ years of applied R&D experience in industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and applying simulation and modelling tools (e.g., FEA, CFD, multiscale modeling) to support product and system design.
  • Experience translating engineering insights into functional prototypes and real-world applications, particularly in soft goods or wearables.
  • Proficient in developing test setups and instrumentation for performance evaluation.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional partners and guide engineering decisions.

compensation and benefits package 

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $66,000 - 86,600 CADannually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and subject to program eligibility requirements.
