core responsibilities

Reporting to Sr. Manager, Legal Operations, the Legal Billing Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Legal team’s financial operations, with a focus on budgeting, billing, and strategic process improvement. This role serves as a liaison between Legal Leaders, Finance, Accounting, and external vendors, ensuring transparency, consistency, and efficiency in financial operations. 

 

The analyst is responsible for maintaining and updating budget trackers, monitoring spending trends, and analyzing variances to provide clear, actionable insights that support informed decision-making. They work closely with Finance to reconcile monthly expenditures, manage accruals, and contribute to accurate forecasting and financial planning. A dedicated billing administrator supports the analyst in executing some of these functions, helping to ensure timely data entry, invoice processing, and coordination with vendors. 

 

Beyond daily operations, the analyst plays a key role in strategic initiatives such as new billing management technologies, enhancing tracking systems, and standardizing global billing processes. They also deliver training and resources to improve financial literacy across the Legal team, empowering team members to engage more effectively with financial data and tools. This role requires a proactive mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate cross-functional relationships to optimize financial operations within Legal.

  • Manage vendor onboarding and provide ongoing support to outside counsel and other legal vendors. 
  • Track and manage monthly accruals and invoices, ensuring accurate coding, timely processing, and up-to-date financial data. 
  • Maintain and update key data sources including global budget trackers, the Outside Counsel directory, and the Matter list. 
  • Prepare and deliver financial reporting and insights, including budget trend analysis, variance identification, and forecasting support in partnership with Legal Leaders and Finance. 
  • Support annual budget planning by summarizing historical spend and assisting with future spend projections. 
  • Lead and support strategic initiatives to improve billing and budgeting processes, including the implementation of new tools, standardized workflows, and enhanced tracking systems. 
  • Develop and deliver training materials to improve the Legal team’s understanding of billing systems, budget tracking, and financial processes. 
  • Manage outside counsel relationships with a focus on spend efficiency and compliance with billing guidelines. 
  • Serve as a resource for Legal team members on billing, budgeting, and Coupa (AP system). 
  • Collaborate closely with Finance to share updates, answer questions, and reconcile budget discrepancies 

 

qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in billing, financial analysis, or legal operations; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Understanding of general accounting principles as they apply to Billings and A/R 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across teams. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Coupa or similar e-billing systems preferred. 
  • Experience with Power BI for financial dashboards and reporting is a plus 
  • Experience in a global legal department or law firm is a plus. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

compensation and benefits package

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from 66,000 - 86,600 CADannually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and, subject to program eligibility requirements.
