About this team 

The architecture group at lululemon is responsible for guiding the design and implementation of technical strategies that support every aspect of our rapidly scaling global business. You will work in a matrixed environment alongside peers in business, engineering, program, ux and strategy – among other disciplines – to collaboratively develop and deliver industry leading technology solutions aligned to business goals and objectives. In addition to your primary team, project, or portfolio you will be supported by a diverse Architecture Community of Practice, which provides learning and governance resources to all architects and will help you build a strong and robust practice of leadership grounded in technical proficiency, innovative thinking and empathy. 

 

core responsibilities 

The Architect develops detailed solution roadmaps for a specific system, project, or application. You will partner closely with engineers and project management to ensure that implementation meets design expectations and adheres to enterprise architecture standards. 

  • Produce and present solution options to project leadership with clear definitions of the benefits and tradeoffs of each proposal. 
  • Participate and present at architecture design reviews and lead the governance activities for a given solution. 
  • Act as subject matter expert within your specific product/platform while also demonstrating knowledge beyond a singular service to encompass multiple interdependent services both on premise and within SaaS or cloud infrastructure and effectively design interactions in a highly matrixed environment. 
  • Develop and maintain component level (e.g. system, service or application) roadmap(s) for assigned portfolio and ensure that solutions recommended for implementation adhere to organizational architecture standards, patterns & practices. 
  • Design and develop detailed architecture design artifacts (including, but not limited to logical, conceptual and integration diagrams) for assigned teams and projects. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • BS / BA in technology related discipline or relevant industry experience 
  • 5-7 years of experience in performance engineering, resiliency design, and observability practices.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS Cloud, distributed systems, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Design and implement architecture models ensuring security, performance, resiliency, and observability across distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team to develop performance designs, test strategies and plans. Identify performance bottlenecks across all tiers, components, layers. 
  • Conduct performance and capacity optimization analysis to improve application effectiveness and meet defined SLAs.
  • Experience in identifying potential failures / impact and setting up failure simulation scenario
  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies (such as Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of Resiliency design pattern and its best practices – Circuit breaker, Timeout/ Time limit, Retry, Bulkhead, Fall back etc.
  • Knowledge of best practices in software development, testing, and deployment, including CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
  • Analysis and resolution of critical and complex application issues (crashes, hung threads, memory leaks, etc.) and performance tuning based on RCA.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and develop effective solutions
  • Conduct Proof of Concept for engineering and testing tools, and demonstrate feasibility of implementing the solution, with business justifications.
  • Hands on experience in HA (High Availability) and DR (Disaster Recovery)
  • Develop and validate resiliency strategies using chaos engineering principles and tools (e.g., Chaos Monkey, Chaos Toolkit, Gremlin, Litmus).
  • Customize or build chaos tools using Python or other scripting/programming languages.
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing and measuring MTTD/ MTTR using industry-standard monitoring and incident management tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience with Observability tools such Datadog, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk,etc.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (ideally JMeter)
  • Experience in chaos engineering, Resiliency validation engineering
  • Drive continuous performance tuning and cost optimization to ensure scalable, efficient, and reliable infrastructure
  • Leverage AI/ML technologies for intelligent observability, automated test data creation, and predictive performance insights to drive business outcomes

compensation and benefits package 

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $136,200 - $178,700 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and subject to program eligibility requirements.
