about this team
The Footwear Development team is a diverse group of creative and solution-oriented thinkers. They are product experts with deep industry knowledge of the footwear creation process, working cross functionally with raw materials, design, sourcing, costing, and merchandising. The team is responsible for the global development of product from conception to commercialization, driving the seasonal product strategy and design vision. This is a team of high performers who are constantly striving to develop personally and professionally, practicing open feedback in a trusting space.
core responsibilities
- Guide the product creation process in a direct‑to‑factory environment by ensuring factory partners clearly understand design intent, technical requirements, and key engineering details.
- Utilize specialized experience to anticipate development and engineering risks and create practical, scalable solutions that keep product on track.
- Use advanced technical skills to review and validate 2D/3D pattern files for accuracy, manufacturability, and overall engineering efficiency.
- Help identify potential development and engineering risks and contribute to creating practical solutions to keep product moving forward.
- Partner closely with factory engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, elevate construction methods, and ensure consistent execution across sizes and prototypes.
- Review samples at all key milestones to ensure proper execution, quality, fit, and performance before advancing.
- Participate in commercialization trials to confirm new styles are manufacturable, stable in production, and meet lululemon’s highest quality standards.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with SSC, factory teams, and cross‑functional partners to ensure alignment throughout development.
- Champion process improvements that enhance efficiency, elevate product quality, and strengthen long‑term factory partnerships.
qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or directly related scientific discipline. OR 8 years minimum footwear industry experience in Development, Pattern Engineering, Tooling Engineering, Footwear Engineering and/or Manufacturing
- In-depth knowledge of footwear construction and manufacturing as well as the end-to-end product life cycle
- Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply this knowledge to product development and challenging technical problems
- Excellent multi-tasking, organizational skills as well as verbal & written communication skills
- Thrives in a time-sensitive, demanding, and dynamic environment, and can self-start, organize, prioritize, multi-task, and balance competing priorities with a keen sense of urgency.
- Manages effectively with ambiguity, complexity, and change, with high emotional intelligence.
- Strong interpersonal skills including analytical, problem solving, organizational, issue resolution, and internal and external relationship management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and influence cross-functional teams, as well as work independently all while adapting to a changing environment.
- Competency w/ Microsoft 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Planner, Outlook) and Flex or PLM equivalent
- Can travel approximately 35% of the time

work arrangement
In-person collaboration and/or office-based work is necessary or important for the role. Work is mainly performed onsite, 4-5 days per week depending on role requirements.
