a day in the life:

The Director, Footwear Color & Materials Design at lululemon leads the strategic and creative direction for footwear color and materials design and creation. You will manage strategic planning of the materials pipeline and opportunities through “feel” and “activity” lenses. You will direct the design, creation and application of these materials into the footwear ranges. You will lead, manage and develop the materials design team.

 

key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage both the Materials Design and Color Design team
  • Identify existing material trends with the ability to create new ones (through lens of lululemon IP ownership)
  • Forge material toolboxes and seasonal color palettes for Athletic and Lifestyle footwear ranges
  • Elevate new technologies that influence new models as well as elevate existing materials for carryover models
  • Support BePlanet ambitions to create tangible sustainability tiers for materials
  • Create seasonal material newness, celebrating seasonal product creative direction
  • Accountable for performance results by creating materials to pass and exceed performance test standards, as well as excel in feel (user testing) and bring premium value in visual, texture and haptic.
  • Ensure close collaboration and partnership with Innovation, Development and Merchandising
  • Drive process discipline with your team by aligning calendars and streamlining the design process to enable creativity
  • Assign style count to the team and manage the seasonal workload of the team. Establish workflow processes, milestones and timelines to support the execution of GTM milestones and the timely delivery of outputs

 

qualifications:

  • 12+ years minimum industry experience is required
  • BA, BFA or BS in Materials/Textile Design required (or equivalent)
  • Footwear experience, materials and color specialist
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Excel, Word, Mac platform
  • An understanding of 3D design

Compensation and Benefits Package 

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $181,700 - $238,500 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and equity offerings, subject to program eligibility requirements.
