About this team

The Raw Materials Innovation team shapes, surprises and engineers delight into the future guest experience through advanced innovation principles and material science. We go beyond the classic research and development methodologies into the realm of limitless possibility for both body and mind. We innovate new materials that didn't exist, we innovate new manufacturing techniques that didn't exist, we create new experiences for our guests that they didn't know they wanted it. We engineer new sensations and functionality in our materials. We lead the industry in creating sustainable materials. We need you to work on short-, mid-and long-term projects by defining 'state of the art,' leading research, building insight, generating unique points of view, creating prototypes and proving principles.

We are looking for a hands-on visionary - a creative hacker, maker, and problemsolver - to lead the development and operation of lululemon’s next-generation textile innovation lab. This lab will serve as a critical platform for exploring and scaling advanced fiber, yarn, fabric, and chemical technologies. This isn’t just about building a space - it’s about creating an iconic, future-defining innovation hub that will shape the industry for years to come. The ideal candidate brings a unique blend of technical excellence, bold creativity, and relentless curiosity. You’ll prototype, test, and iterate; collaborate across disciplines; and constantly challenge assumptions to deliver world-class innovation at scale.

A day in the life
  • Take a visionary, big-picture approach to designing and evolving the lab into a world-class innovation center.
  • Build a space that is as inspiring as it is functional—an environment where breakthrough ideas come to life.
  • Establish and oversee day-to-day operations of the Raw Materials Innovation Lab, from early-stage prototyping to scalable development.
  • Develop SOPs for trial production, testing, and scale-up processes.
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring concepts from idea to implementation,
  • Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses, develop novel materials, and optimize textile processes using scientific methods, capture any IP that might get created during the process.
  • Ensure all lab equipment is maintained, calibrated, and running safely and efficiently.
  • Work hands-on with machinery: spinning, texturizing, knitting, weaving, and finishing.
  • Work hands-on with machinery manufacturers and your team to hack the sampling machines for increased production and for net new innovations.
  • Manage resources, materials, and inventory with precision and foresight.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a team of technicians and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning and experimentation. Build a network of subject matter experts / consultants that could be a resource for running specialized sampling machines.
  • Maintain the database of all the innovation trials and maintain the library of all the developments.
  • Engage with external partners—including testing labs, vendors, and research institutions—to drive technical development.
  • Analyze trial results, extract insights, and translate findings into actionable improvements.
  • Present key findings and project updates to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Stay current on the latest in textile science, sustainability, manufacturing, and IP to ensure our lab is always on the cutting edge.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to evolve lab capabilities and operational excellence.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (or PhD preferred) in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Textile Management, or related fields.
